Blogging for Liberty: Obama is not a stupid idiot (well, he is not an idiot).

Obama is not an idiot (as the term idiot refers to a person who has an IQ of 25 or lower).

Here’s a trick to help tell if a person fits into the category of idiot: Ask a question, and if your subject answers, then they are a moron at worst. If they don’t answer,  then you might be talking to an idiot.  Obama answers all his scripted questions, and skirts most of the unscripted ones (at least since his famous answer to Joe-the-plummer’s query); so, that rules out the term “idiot.”

Any child with an IQ of above 70 is considered “normal,” while those with scores above 130 are considered “gifted.” On the other hand, scores below 70 are defined as retarded.

In the past, those with IQs between 51 and 70 were called morons. Morons had adequate learning skills to complete menial tasks and communicate.

Imbeciles, with IQs between 26 and 50, never progressed past a mental age of about six.

And the lowest of all were the idiots, with IQ between 0 and 25, who were characterized by poor motor skills, extremely limited communication, and little response to stimulus.

The moron/imbecile/idiot classifications remained popular until the early 1970s.

“Mongolian idiot,” which in the 19th and early 20th centuries was an actual, literal diagnosis, derives from people’s belief that individuals with Down syndrome – with their wide set eyes and round faces – resembled Mongolians. In fact, before the British physician J.H.L. Down (1828 – 1896) lent his name to the chromosomal syndrome, Down syndrome was known merely as “mongolism.”

Stupidity is defined as a mentality which is considered to be informed, deliberate and maladaptive. Mental schemas, which help us adapt to our environment and process new ideas, can also, simultaneously, be maladaptive. A schema may be maladaptive to the extent that built-in biases compromise data so that perceptions will conform to expectations and desires. In addition,  behavior that is determined by the schema (which presumably was adaptive when formed) might become maladaptive as conditions change (you know, like spending trillions and still having an unemployment rate of 9.1% even when (1) A person who loses a 40 hour per week job, but works for one hour mowing a lawn for pay is classified as employed.  (2)  “Discouraged workers” who have lost a job, but do not make an effort to find a new job in a given week are NOT classified as unemployed or even as in the labor force).  Of course both possibilities mean that the announced unemployment rate is not nearly as high as the real unemployment rate, and so, the Obama Administration’s continued behavior is, by definition, stupid.

The historian Carlo Cipolla wrote several essays about human stupidity and suggested five fundamental laws of stupidity:

1.  Always and inevitably each of us underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

2.  The probability that a given person is stupid is independent of any other characteristic possessed by that person.

3.  A person is stupid if they cause damage to another person or group of people without experiencing personal gain, or even worse causing damage to themselves in the process.

4.  Non-stupid people always underestimate the harmful potential of stupid people; they constantly forget that at any time anywhere, and in any circumstance, dealing with or associating themselves with stupid individuals invariably constitutes a costly error.

5.  A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person there is.

Today the classification system is one category broader – moron, imbecile, and idiot have been replaced with mild, moderate, severe, and profound retardation – and diagnostic factors other than IQ are considered in making a diagnosis.

Obama is not an idiot; however, Obama is a socialist and wants to rid this country of capitalism that is not directed by a central government. He thinks this will help the people of the United States, and that makes him ignorant of the truth with thoughts and behaviors that are just pure stupidity.

Bloggingforliberty: What Democrats Think of the American People? Not much. By William Kristol

What Democrats (and RINOs) Think of the American People

Not much.

This was an excellent article that I thought I would share. Although Mr. Kristol makes no mention of RINOs (Republicans In Name Only), they too are equally responsible for the predicaments in which we now find ourselves.

BY William Kristol

March 16, 2010 11:40 PM
Democratic leaders in the House are apparently moving towards the “Slaughter Solution” of avoiding a direct vote on the health care legislation and instead passing the Senate health care bill by voting to “deem” it passed. As they do so, they keep reassuring the media–and each other–that the American people don’t care.

A memo from a top aide to Maryland Democrat Chris Van Hollen late last week counseled other Democratic staffers to tell their bosses not to worry, that “things like reconciliation and what the rules committee does is INSIDE BASEBALL.” Yesterday House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told reporters, “I don’t think any American…is going to make the distinction” between the Slaughter procedure and a straightforward vote on the legislation. “Process is interesting, particularly to all of us around this room. But in the final analysis, what is interesting to the American public is what does this bill do for them and their families.”

In other words: the American public doesn’t care about how our representatives govern us–which is to say, about how we govern ourselves. Whether Congress follows its rules, whether there is democratic accountability, whether there is constitutional probity–none of this matters according to Hoyer. Rather, the self-centered and self-concerned American people only care about the (alleged) results of the legislation.

Here the Democrats betray their contempt for the supposed simple-mindedness and short-sightedness of the American public. They also convey their vision of the American people living under the big government liberalism: We are to be passive consumers of government action, who accept what is done for us and to us in light of our perceived narrow short-term self-interest. We are not to think of ourselves as self-governing citizens with a stake in the process of constitutional self-government and a concern for the good of the whole.

This may be the outcome–turning citizens into consumers, self-government into the nanny state–that the Democrats would like to achieve. I don’t think it’s one the American people wish to accept.

Blogging for Liberty: A letter to all our Senators and Congressmen about the heath care law.

A letter to all our Senators and Congressmen:

As a physician and as your constituent, I urge you to vote to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

While I support the need for health care reform, I strongly oppose this particular bill because it shifts even more control over medical decisions to the federal government (the cause for the huge costs to begin with) and ultimately will further harm the quality of our nation’s health care and decrease timely access to all forms of modern care.

The cost of our health care has been driven up by government control, and as it now stands over 50 cents of every health care dollar is paid by the government.  More government control will add more to the cost and insure even more shortages (that means more rationing and decreased quality). If you don’t believe me, then look at the history of health care in the Soviet Union or the system currently used in Great Britain. This type of ponzi scheme has been tried before!

The following quote should be committed to memory: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,”(Santayana’s Law of Repetitive Consequences).

Let me do my job of taking care of my patients and you do your job of following the Constitution.

This letter may be a little too abrasive perhaps, but we are talking about a fundamental change from freedom to slavery, and that is more than a little abrasive!

Blogging for Liberty: SEIU and the BIG O

In 2010 President Barack Obama appointed Service Employees International Union (SEIU) President Andrew Stern to Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board, a new commission tasked with coming up with recommendations to help reduce the federal deficit.

Oh, don’t worry, he knows the President well! According to White House visitor logs released in November of 2010,  Stern visited the White House at least 22 times in 2009, making him the most frequent visitor during that year!

Stern will not feel alone either! Patrick Gaspard, a former vice president for politics and legislation for SEIU Local 1199, a giant New York health care workers union, who was named White House political director following Obama’s election will be in the White House

Barack and Patrick

Also, SEIU Treasurer Anna Burger, who was named to Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board, will be at the White House too!.

Anna and Barack

Of course the former SEIU associate general counsel Craig Becker, did not get appointed because his nomination to the National Labor Relations Board was blocked in the Senate. Becker has stated publicly representing illegal aliens is one of the core tasks of the SEIU. Yes,  he was so bad that Congress  (with the help of a couple of Democrats) blocked the appointment. So how did  Obama respond? By making Becker a recess appointment, that’s how. That means that he’ll serve on the board until the end of 2011. SEIU knows it’s good to own a President.

SEIU has invested heavily in politics. In 2008, it was the 7th largest campaign donor, with almost every penny of its contributions going to statist Democrats (sorry about the redundancy). In fact, Andrew Stern told a reporter for the Las Vegas Sun newspaper  in May 2009; “We (SEIU) spent a fortune to elect Barack Obama — $60.7 million to be exact — and we’re proud of it.”

By the way, who do you think stands to gain with the implementation of Obama Care? Can you say SEIU?

Blogging for Liberty: Heath Care In Exchange For Votes

You hear the statists talk on the one hand about how much money they are going to save the country by decreasing the cost of health care  (by ostensibly  socializing it), and on the other hand how the country should welcome all the illegal immigrants and make them legal. Duplicitous? I’ll say.

Let me impart to you a little story that is exemplary of cases in hospitals all over America. When I was a Resident at L.A. County Hospital there was a patient who was a citizen of Guatemala on the Acute Neurology Ward that had severe memory problems related to herpes encephalitis.

The distance from Guatemala to Los Angeles is aprroximately 2,100 as the crow flies, but if one comes by land, then the trip is considerably longer, and  you must journey through the entirety of Mexico first. This unfortunate soul had lost his ability to remember anything new for more than a few seconds (anterograde amnesia), and had no memory about his past (retrograde amnesia ).   As if this were not tragic enough,  he remained on the Acute Neurology Ward for 7 years (at $2000 per day). In fact, he had been there so long that he become sort of the ward mascot. You see, because he had no memory, he could not tell the staff were he was from or who we could contact that knew him.

File:Uscmedcenter.jpg

Now, he stayed on the floor NOT because he needed the services, but because the ward clerk couldn’t figure out how to get him to an appropriate level of care facility (since he was a Guatemalan national and not a citizen of the U.S.).

Fortunately for the man from Guatemala,  the ward clerk who was  in charge when the Guatemalan was admitted retired, and by the end of my 3 month rotation the new clerk found a government agency to pay for this man to he cared for at a residential care facility for a couple of thousand dollars a month (instead of a couple thousand a day). Now, you the tax player still had to pay for this non-citizen, but $58,000 less per month than you did for the previous 7 years.

Oh, by the way; the organization that ran all but the doctor services at L.A. County Hospital? Why SEIU of course! Yes, SEIU officials were the ones responsible for seeing that this man was moved to the proper facility. But hey, it was not their money (it was yours)!

Justice for Janitors Day

Although this is an extreme example, I personally took care of over a hundred people from Mexico, Central and South America, and Asia while I was in training at L. A. County hospital who were not citizens of the U. S., and I ordered treatment that must of totaled in the hundreds of thousands. I used to marvel at the huge distances many of these people would travel to get care; so, I always asked them why they came  all the way from their country to our county hospital. The answer I received 100% of the time? The care was free! Not because the care in their country was inferior, or they needed a procedure only U.S. hospitals performed. Nope, it was because someone told them that if the could make it across the border (in some cases many borders) and up to the county hospital, then the medical care would be free! Well, not for you the tax payer, but for anyone that didn’t pay U.S. tax be they legal or illegal.

Keep in mind I was only one out of 88 Residents in my specialty, and there were at least 900 more residents training in other specialties at that hospital alone! If you figure each one cared for just two non-citizens and then you multiply that number by all the hospitals in the United States with Residents, then you can see the scope of the problem. Do the math, and then tell the liars in the government and their shills in the media that the tax payer cannot pay the  bills for the rest of the world.

Ah, but to focus only on the cost is to lose sight of the real purpose of  providing  illegals free health care, for it is the votes of these people for statist politicians  (at the rate of over 85%)  that the statists really want.  Hey, why not? You are paying for it!

Blogging for Liberty: Election of the Body Snatchers

Statist want the government to control everything, and taking over possession of your body is a very good start don’t you think? That’s exactly what the Obama Care plan is going to do. Yep, take the best health care plan the world has ever known and give it to the same people who run the Post Office. Now that’s thinking!

The statists think it entirely natural for the central government to decide what 307 million citizens ought to be spending on something as basic to individual liberty as their own bodies.

Do not be fooled. This “Health care crisis” in the mind of the public is being used by the statists to get votes and thereby usurp power, and they care not a hoot about care. Remember, by any measure the U.S. heath care system is THE best in the history of the world (unless of course a statist organization like the World Health Organization is doing the measuring).

There is already a superb system of care for the indigent, and it is called the “County Hospital System.” Every state has one, and I used to be responsible for 1/12 of the state of Louisiana’s mental health care; so I do know a little about the “public sector.” Nothing is ever said about this system, but it exists and does a very good job, inefficiently, but still a good job. If people fall through the cracks, then it is by choice.

Show me where there are citizens in this country who can’t get care. For that matter, show me a non-citizen who can’t get care!

Freedom is messy, but a free system of capitalism, unencumbered by statist regulation, is THE most efficient way to provide goods and services bar none.  Make no mistake about it, in free societies, people will fall through the cracks – drink too much, eat too much, buy homes they cannot afford, fail to make prudent provision for health care, and much else. But the price of being relieved of all those tiresome choices by a statist-driven, paternal government is far too high, and far too inefficient.

Government health care, like any statist system, would be less efficient to say the least, but  it  would still be wrong even if it “controlled costs” (but it won’t).  Most importantly, it’s a liberty issue. I’d rather be free to choose, even if I make the wrong choices.

Don’t believe the hype, guard your freedom, and vote for people that will let you keep it.

Blogging for Libberty: Statists and the National Socialist German Workers’ Party.

Statists and the National Socialist German Workers’ Party.

Statists, Socialist, communists, fascists, Democrats, and RINOs are unified under the rubric of “statist” as described a la Mark Levin. So, I will use the term “statist”  to refer to all of these people (who are ignorant about human history).

Everyone who pays attention has heard at least a statist or two in the Obama Administration belch about all the good intentions of Karl Marx, Lenin, Mao, or  Trotsky. Apropos, Marx is the guy who came up with the phrase, “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions,” and hell is what we are going to get if the people who think Jesus was a communist, George W. Bush is Hitler , and anyone who opposes the statist schemes of Obama is a Nazi are successful in re-electing Obama.

I am sure these ignorant statists don’t know that Nazi was an English acronym for the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, but I am equally sure that these same people, if confronted with this truth, would apply the same pathological dose of cognitive dissidence to it as they do all other facts that get in their way.

The plan for power in socialism relies primarily on a system of public economic planning for the entire economy coupled with “democratization” of industry where the workers control the industry. This would mean that “the collective” would own everything, and what the didn’t own they would tax. Hey, sounds like the big government Democrats and RINOs doesn’t it!

Blogging for Liberty: Obama’s Approval Numbers Are Not All That Should Scare You!

Hard to believe that Obama’s approval numbers are, today, still this high. This would be really funny if it wasn’t so sad.
Now, at first blush one would say that he hasn’t a chance, but that is to forget the huge outlay of your money to organizations that are functionally little more than vote purchasing schemes.
In the past the Republican electioneers counted on a surreptitious fix of about 4-6 % of the vote apportioned to the Democrats, and if the Republican candidate was not ahead by at least 4%, then the Dems would win by the fix. However, based on the numbers of votes recorded for the Harry Reid election last year, one needs to figure the voter fraud will reach into the double digits. Remember Reid was down by 4 points going into the election!
So, before we celebrate Obama’s pending unemployment, remember that the fix is in like never before!

The Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Nevada finds Angle with 49% support to Reid’s 45%. (that’s 4% in favor of Angle but several weeks before the Harrah’s chain decided to back Reid in exchange for his support of the video poker bill – a bill supported by the casino industry)

Final results:
Reid received 361,655 votes, or 50 percent, and Angle received 320,996 votes, or 45 percent.  (that’s 5% in favor of Reid; so, all-in-all a 9% swing!)

Blogging for Liberty: Just a Few Facts About Gasoline

The yield of gasoline from a barrel of crude oil depends upon the quality of the crude oil, and the amount and type of processing at the refinery. So called “light” crude yields usually more gasoline per barrel than “heavy” crude, for a given amount of refining.

Actually, a barrel of oil contains 42 gallons. When the barrel is processed, the yield is approximately 15 to 19 gallons of gasoline, 10 gallons of fuel oil, 5 gal. of jet fuel (Kerosene) and 4 gal of other “heavy” products such as lubricants, grease, asphalt / bitumene and plastics and 4 gallons of lighter condensates/naphtha.

Now, despite the advent of the Department of  Energy, there have been no new oil refineries built in the U.S.  for over 30 yrs;  however, early in 2011 , a Texas refinery that is owned by Saudi Arabia and British Petrolium has been expanding its capacity. The project, originally scheduled for a start date of 2007, will double the plant’s output to 600,000 barrels per day, making it the nation’s largest oil refinery.

Canada has not fared much better, and they have NOT built one there for over 23 years: however, there was a proposed Canadian refinery to be built beginning in 2011 in the Placentia Bay area of Newfoundland and Labrador.

This refinery will be the first refinery built in all of North America since 1984, but the company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2009. So much for windfall profits ay?

The prior U.S. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman predicted that “U.S. energy demand will increase by 23 percent between 2005 and 2030, with a 19 percent increase in the demand for oil and other liquid fuels.”

Even with this increased demand, the Obama Administration is NOT going to allow, let alone facilitate, increased domestic production.

So, tell me again the purpose of the Department of Energy?

Blogging for Liberty: Originalists and the “Fairness Doctrine”

Originalists are those evil people who believe the Constitution was designed to protect individual liberty, and it has been this liberty, or freedom if you will, that has made our country great.

Originalists reject the idea that any contemporary standards should be used to determine the meaning of the Constitution as human nature has been the same since the dawn of civilization, and the constitution was designed to protect the individual against human nature.

So , logically, Originalists reject the idea that the meaning of the Constitution can change (outside of a constitutional amendment-a process that is painstakingly described in the Constitution).  By the way, it was the socialist Woodrow Wilson who started the tradition of “interpretation” of the Constitution in order to get around the unconstitutionality of his socialist programs, but FDR was the master.  You see, it is much easier to “interpret” the constitution than it is to amendment it! However, the Obama Administration has jumped way ahead, and it has ignored the Constitution completely.

If the  “Fairness Doctrine” is established, then free speech will be squelched, and  our system of government cannot function.  If the socialists who are in power really want freedom (however I would posit that they do not) then they would NOT be bothered the oppositions dissent.  Thomas Jefferson, a politician the Democrats frequently quote, said,“We are not afraid … to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it” .

Classically,  socialists advocated complete nationalization, but the milder social democrats advocate state control of capital within the framework of the market economy.  So social democrats (like  the Democrats and the RINOs) propose  selective nationalization of key national industries (like oil, auto, and banking industries, etc.) combined with tax-funded welfare programs. Now I said socialists, but I did not mean that as JUST a pejorative as it is really a definition of their philosophy of government.  There are many types of socialism, and Obama and McCain are really both social democrats, but I reject them both (even if Obama is more socialist than democrat, and McCain vice versa).

The main difference, until now that the Obama Administration has assumed control, was that these two powerful groups of socialists were slowed down by the vocal dissent from the Right.  Theoretically at least, the “Fairness Doctrine” would have stopped the dissemination of that dissent, but since the Obama Administration has in effect totally ignored the Constitution,  protest has become moot.
