A bayonet is a modern weapon? Really?

Yes, really, really!

A bayonet (from French baïonnette) is a knife, sword, or spike-shaped weapon designed to fit in, on, over or underneath the muzzle of a rifle, musket or similar weapon, effectively turning the gun into a spear. In this regard, it is an ancillary close-quarter combat or last-resort weapon.
The origins of the bayonet are unclear, but appear to have begun in France in the 1600’s. There is a legend that during the mid-1600’s the peasants of the Southern French town of Bayonne, having run out of powder and shot, rammed their long-bladed hunting knives into the muzzles of their muskets converting their guns into spears and, voilà, created the bayonet.

Bayonne is in the southwest corner of France near Spain

Contrary to Obama’s ignorant assertion in the final debate, the bayonet is still issued by many armies, including the forces of the United States, but after all, he is just the commander-in-chief. Perhaps the cocaine he snorted caused a brain infarct in his angular gyrus producing dyslexia; so he read “chief” as “chef”; after all, we know how he reads “corpsman”.
This may be news to village idiots, but the bayonet is still used for controlling prisoners and as a weapon of “last resort”.
In addition, the bayonet serves as a useful training aid in building morale and increasing desired aggressiveness in troops (but apparently none of these are desired results for our President).
Modern bayonets are often multi-purpose knifes which are also an effective fighting knife or the Soviet AKM bayonet which was also a ground breaking survival knife that can be used as a wire-cutter when combined with its scabbard (yes communists use bayonets too).
Some bayonets can also be used as utility knifes, bottle openers or can even be used by troops to cut their way free through the metal skin of a crashed helicopter or airplane. Also, issuing one modern multi-purpose bayonet/knife is obviously more cost effective than issuing two or three specialty bayonets and knifes.
The American M16 rifle used the M7 bayonet was a direct descendants of the M3 Fighting Knife and has a spear-point blade with a half sharpened secondary edge. The newer M9 bayonet, officially adopted in 1984 by the United States, has a clip-point blade with saw-teeth along the spine, and it can be used as a multi-purpose knife and wire-cutter when combined with its scabbard.
The current USMC OKC-3S bayonet, officially adopted in 2003 by the United States, bears a resemblance to the Marines’ iconic Ka-Bar fighting knife with serrations near the handle.
“Mr. Obama, the Marines still use bayonets. Perhaps you should call them more often; like when our embassy is being overrun?”
Don’t tell the Democrat idiots or their king that you know the truth (they think you are an idiot too).
